What is a Crown?

A crown can help restore and protect a tooth that is worn, decayed, cracked, or broken. It can also support a tooth after a very large filling or root canal. Or it can help hold a dental bridge or even cover a dental implant.

What Types of Crowns Are There?

There are 3 types of crowns. Depending on the structure of the tooth and placement, a dentist will recommend the best type of crowns to meet your needs.\n

Full Porcelain – This type provides the best natural color match to the rest of your teeth. It is strong, stable, and highly resistant to wear. It is an excellent choice for front teeth.

Full Metal – This type of crown are commonly recommended for back teeth due to the forces of biting and chewing. A metal crown rarely chips or breaks and offers strength and endurance. A gold or other high-noble metal crown offers bio-compatibility, which will prevent allergic reactions or gum line discoloration. These are often but not always, the least expensive type of crowns.

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal – Although this type of crown combines the benefits of a natural surface color that resembles the rest of your teeth and the strength of a metal, it requires the removal of more tooth structure than other types. This may mean greater potential of patient discomfort during treatment.

What is Orthodontic?

Orthodontics treatment is a branch of dentistry that

specializes with improper teeth positioning such as crowding teeth or an extra tooth, causing an

improper bite. There are people that may need treatment to realign a jaw that is out of place due to

genetics or due to an accident. And many others want to correct one or more crooked teeth.

    What Types of Braces are There?

There are 2 types of braces. Depending

the structure of the tooth and placement, a dentist will recommend the best type of braces to meet

your needs.

 Metal– Metal brackets are silver in color and are the most common type.

    An archwire holds the bracket in place and the wire needs to be periodically adjusted by our

    specialists. Ceramic– Ceramic are clear and are appropriate for

    patients who want to minimize the appearance of this form of orthodontic treatment. *Many people

    choose clear braces for their aesthetic appeal, but it’s important to note that not only is

    there an additional charge for this type of bracket, the length of time that you have to wear

    them is increased compared to traditional metal-wired braces.*

    Why Might a Dentist Prescribe it?

A dentist/orthodontist might

prescribe/suggest orthodontics to:

 Correct an improper bite Ensure the top of your teeth are aligned

      Help close spaces between teeth Improve eating and speaking functions Reduce

    the possibility of long-term wear and tear on your teeth Straighten teeth that are

    out of place.

    What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a new treatment that can straighten

your teeth without brackets, bands, or wires! Your teeth will slowly shift your teeth into place

over time by using custom aligners that are virtually invisible. The top and bottom trays are made

of smooth plastic so that they fit comfortably. Every two weeks, you switch out the old ones and

wear two new aligners.

    How it Works?

Invisalign is worn anywhere from 20 to 22 hours per day.

You’ll remove them when you eat, brush and floss your teeth. One of the many great things about

wearing the aligners is that they are easy to clean and don’t require you to accommodate any dietary
